Brighten Up a Gloomy Day: OOTD

Rainy days are tough on the fashion conscious mind. For one, the rain is sort of a deterrent from putting in effort because no one really goes out in the rain unless they absolutely need to. We’ve heard the story many times that rainy days are meant for Netflix and napping, and I myself have a hard time arguing with that. Unfortunately, work, class and other commitments sometimes deprive us of that luxury and we’re forced to brave the gloomy weather regardless of that cliffhanger at the end of your last Grey’s Anatomy episode.

I probably have every single shade of blue known to man in my closet (well over 50, Mr. Grey), and cobalt blue is always the one I shy away from. In the 2 years that I’ve owned these pants, this is only their second time seeing the light (or gloom) of day. Maybe it’s just me, but this electric, animated shade of blue just seems so loud! That said, brightly coloured pants like this are easily simmered by a mixture of neutrals or soft tones, and they really aren’t things to be afraid of. I decided to pull all sorts of greys as a tribute to the weather of the day, and keep the cobalt company with this darker, thick scarf that doubled as my shelter when I didn’t want to whip out the old umbrella. The look was signed, sealed and delivered with a pair of simple black boots and this grey peacoat over top.

I had a lot of running around to do, so I went for an outfit that was built on comfort with enough personality to really wear itself. There isn’t anything overwhelmingly special about any of these pieces, but together they create an interesting play on palettes that kept me warm, dry and fully functional throughout a busy day. Whenever I was indoors and safely sheltered from the rain, this knit cardigan became the statement piece. With each stitch subtly telling a story of it’s own all the way up to the cozy thick collar, I would swear by knit cardigans like this for absolute comfort and relaxed style.

Rainy days happen and we all have to deal with them. Instead of giving in to the temptation of sweats and a hoodie, show that weather that your commitment to fashion is ever-present and unrelenting. Thanks for reading, and have a safe and wonderful weekend!
